We've compiled a list of the top questions riders ask in the lead up to the Big Canberra Bike Ride. Can't find an answer to your question below? Send an email to the Big Canberra Bike Ride team via the 'All Event Enquiries' button to the right of this page.

When do registrations close?

Online registrations close at midnight on Tuesday 28 February 2017.

Late registration will be available in person at the Big Canberra Bike Ride 2017 (read below).

Can I register on the event weekend?

Riders can register over the event weekend however a $10 late entry fee will apply.

Late registration will be available on from 12pm - 4pm on Saturday March 4 at Rond Terrace.

You can also register on the morning of the ride in the Event Village at Rond Terrace.

When do I get my Ride Number and Registration Pack?

Rider packs will be available for collection between 12pm - 4pm on Saturday March 4 from Rond Terrace, as well as on the morning of the the Big Canberra Bike Ride 2017.

All riders must bring their helmets for checking. No rider packs will be allocated if a helmet has not been checked.

Do I have to be a Pedal Power ACT member to participate?

No. However, if you are not a member you will not be covered by insurance for the event.

Your registration for the Big Canberra Bike Ride gives you access to discounted Pedal Power ACT membership. This will give you insurance coverage for your ride at the event, and all year.

You can also buy insurance coverage for just the day of the event

What sort of bike do I need?

On recreational rides such as the Big Canberra Bike Ride there is a great range of bikes out on the road, from older mountain bikes/hybrids to the latest road bikes. Smoother tyres will make your ride easier/quicker but don't feel that you need the latest bike to be able to enjoy the fun of participating!

It's a good idea to get your bike checked at your local bike shop beforehand.

What should I wear?

All participants must wear an Australian Standards Approved helmet during the event.

March is likely to be warm so we suggest wearing a moisture wicking lycra shirt or a simple cotton t-shirt. Padded bike pants are great, otherwise a comfy pair of shorts/cargo pants.

Plenty of sunscreen and hydration is very important. Check the forecast and ride updates in the days preceding the event to plan your attire and ensure you are well prepared.

Can we enter the Big Canberra Bike Ride as a group?

You certainly can! If you'd like to enter a group of ten or more riders in the Big Canberra Bike Ride, and need your payment processed as one transaction, please get in touch with us via the 'All Event Enquiries' button to the right.

Each rider will need to be registered individually so we have information like emergency contact and T&C agreements - we will give you a code to enter when you register, so that your booking can be processed under your group payment. Just send us an email and we'll organise it.

How long will the ride take?

Depending on your riding speed and ability, and the time spent at refreshment stops, riders should allow these approximate timeframes to complete the ride:

35km: 1 - 1.5 hours
68km: 2.5 hours - 4.5 hours

Can I transfer my ride to someone else if I can't ride?

Jerseys and knicks will be available for sale at the event.

Riders however are encouraged to fundraise through their networks or make a donation themselves in order to reach the fundraising reward targets to guarantee a jersey or knicks, and avoid any disappointment.

What are my fundraising dollars used for?

We encourage all the Big Canberra Bike Ride participants to help us achieve our aim of creating a safer cycling environment in the ACT and nationally by fundraising $25,000 for the Amy Gillett Foundation

By supporting the Foundation through the Big Canberra Bike Ride 2017, you are directly contributing to the robust awareness, education and evaluation campaigns that Pedal Power ACT and the AGF will support and coordinate in the ACT to ensure the incoming minimum overtaking distance legislation is effective in saving lives.

Where can I park on the day?

Parking will be available in the car parks surrounding Rond Terrace.

We would like to remind all attendees that parking will be enforced and to park legally.

Please be aware that it is an offence under the National Land (Road Transport) Ordinance 2014 to park a vehicle on open space in the Rond Terrace area.  Open space is any area that is not designed for the movement or parking of motor vehicles, such as grassed areas, footpaths and landscaped areas.

Can I use public transport to get to the Big Canberra Bike Ride on the day?
