The Big Canberra Bike Ride is one of the biggest events on Canberra's bike calendar, and in 2017 it will be held on Sunday 5 March.
The Big Canberra Bike Ride is coordinated by Pedal Power ACT to provide an opportunity for cyclists of all abilities and ages to celebrate safe cycling in Canberra.
The event is proud to support the Amy Gillett Foundation as the official charity partner for the 2017 Ride.
The ACT Government has commenced a trial of minimum overtaking distance legislation based on the Amy Gillett Foundation’s ‘a metre matters’ campaign.
There is much work to be done to ensure that the trial becomes permanent law. Your support will help the AGF undertake this work, and to further our combined efforts to create a safer environment for bike riders in the ACT and across Australia.
The Big Canberra Bike Ride 2017 features four different rides:
The Big Canberra Bike Ride is an inclusive cycling event and open to riders 5 years and up (adult supervision is required for cyclists under 16 years of age).
The Big Canberra Bike Ride provides a safe, enjoyable day for the bike riding community with entertainment and activities running in the Event Village where family and friends can relax as they wait for their rider to cross the finish line.
Support the Amy Gillett Foundation
The Big Canberra Bike Ride 2017 supports the important work of the Amy Gillett Foundation, a charity with one purpose - reducing the incidence of death and injury of bike riders.
The Foundation was born out of tragedy, the death of Amy Gillett, who was hit and killed by an out-of-control motorists whilst cycling with her national teammates in Germany. Since the Foundation's inception it has been a catalyst for change, focused on what should be rather than what was.
That's why the Foundation has set ambitious aims and outcomes:
Mission: safe cycling in Australia
Vision: zero bike rider fatalities
Riders are encouraged to fundraise in the lead up to the Big Canberra Bike Ride to help the Amy Gillett Foundation achieve this mission and vision.
